Establishment of MMTC - a private sector initiative, was the outcome of resolutions of two international maritime conferences on development of African Seafarers held in Abuja-Nigeria in 2005; and Accra-Ghana in 2009; and also Transocean Nigeria one day international conference held in Lagos on 10th of May, 2010 on “the need for establishment of credible maritime training school in Nigeria”.

After some years of further research and workshop on human capacity development for the Nigerian maritime industry, some concerned Nigerian maritime experts/consultants and foreign partners came together to add their experiences to the promotion of high quality maritime education and training in support of the Federal Government efforts, through the establishment of MATRAL MARITIME TRAINING CENTRE in Nigeria.

The Centre is accredited by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and commenced operation in 2012.

Vision
Our vision is to be a centre of maritime training excellence specializing in delivery of International Maritime Organization (IMO) courses under the STCW Convention, International Labour Organization (ILO)’s Maritime Labour Convention 2006, Port Workers development programme and training for seafarers operating on non-convention vessels .

Mission
Our mission is to train seafarers to internationally acceptable standards under a quality management system.
